Gloria Artis for Professor Kazuhiko Sawada

One of the leading researchers of the life and legacy of Bronisław Piłsudski – Professor Kazuhiko Sawada – visited Poland. During the visit, he was honored with the previously awarded Gold Medal “Zasłużony Kulturze Gloria Artis”. The decoration was made by Prime Minister Professor Piotr Gliński.

During the ceremony, which took place on April 26 at the Józef Piłsudski Museum in Sulejówek, the awarder of the medal said, among other things, that “Poland and Japan, despite a significant geographical and cultural distance, have much in common, such as respect for tradition, defense of cultural identity, bravery and courage, attitude towards family. Research and popularization activities of Professor Kazuhiko Sawada about Bronisław Piłsudski is part of the long-term intertwining of Polish-Japanese ties in our history”.

The honoree delivered a lecture entitled “Bronisław Piłsudski and women in Japan”. During the ceremony, there was also a handover – overdue due to the pandemic – XXIX Award of “Przegląd Wschodni”, awarded for the biography entitled “The Tale of Bronisław Piłsudski. A Pole named King of the Ainu”, originally published in Japanese, then translated into Polish by Barbara Słomka and published in Poland in 2021, by the Józef Piłsudski Museum in Sulejówek, with the support of the Japan Foundation and the Manggha Museum of Japanese Art and Technology.
